Up here in the Idaho Panhandle, Sandpoint and other lake resorts get all the press.  But Wallace is a gem.  The silver-mining capital’s 19th-century downtown is on the National Register of Historic Places, and there’s great outdoor recreation like the Route of the Hiawatha – one of the country’s most spectacular mountain bike rides.
